Program Spotlight: Produce Prescription (PRx)

We kicked off our 5th season of the Produce Prescription (PRx) program in June! SVHC purchases CSAs (community supported agriculture) from three local farms – Freetown Food Forest, TC3 Farm, and Main Street Farms – and delivers fresh vegetables each week to the 125 participants throughout the growing season, at no-cost. PRx aims to provide individual support; increase food security and nutrition through a food as medicine concept (free produce, educational resources, etc.); improve access to fresh produce; improve health literacy; and increase food dignity.

The 2023 season provided 443 people, ranging in age from one to 76, with approximately 14,809 meals. We’re excited to expand our reach into the Cortland County community!

So Sweet! Strawberry Picking at Grisamore Farms

SVFR went berry picking! Staff and volunteers tried to beat the heat on the morning of June 20th at Grisamore Farms and picked over 35 pounds of strawberries! All the fresh berries were distributed with our food deliveries from the hub. Strawberries were purchased with Nourish NY funding.
