Supplementing PRx Shares with Herbs & Cookbooks

This month, we're excited to share some highlights from our ongoing efforts to support our PRx program participants through fresh, locally sourced produce and educational resources. We’re excited to provide participants with a delightful selection of fresh herbs—basil, oregano, sage, and parsley—sourced from Nipotina Herb Farm. This local, woman-owned medicinal herb farm is renowned for its high-quality herbs that bring both flavor and health benefits to meals!

In addition to these fresh herbs, PRx participants are also receiving the CSA Guide to Cooking Farm-Fresh, Seasonal Produce. Developed by the Madison Area CSA Coalition, this cookbook is a treasure trove of recipes that highlight seasonal vegetables. The guide goes beyond recipes, offering valuable information on the nutritional benefits of various produce, a bit of history, and practical storage tips to keep the produce fresh longer.

Celebrating World Breastfeeding/Chest feeding Week: August 1st - 7th

The Cortland Breastfeeding Partnership held their annual World Breastfeeding/Chest feeding Week Celebration on August 1 at Suggett Park. We welcomed families, shared a meal, played games, and of course highlighted all things chest feeding. WBFW is an international campaign to help people learn more about human milk and how to support families to meet their feeding goals.

Nourishing Cortland Summer Camps

SVHC’s Seven Valleys Food Rescue program has been working with Cortland area summer camps during the month of July to help supplement snacks and meals with New York State grown food, purchased through our Nourish NY funding. We've teamed up with summer camps at the YMCA and Lime Hollow, as well as the Cortland Youth Bureau's Art Camp and Homer's Center for the Arts Theater Camp. Purchasing this local food helps NYS farmers and keeps our local economies vibrant all while fueling our youth with healthy snacks. Food includes in-season vegetables, apple sauce, maple flavored pumpkin seeds, yogurt, granola and chocolate milk!

In the Community

We're out and about in the community this summer! Check out a few highlights from Cortland Pride and CAPCO's Community Field Day.
