The EPA estimates that during the holiday season, our household waste increases by almost 25%.

Beyond recycling toy packaging, gift boxes, and wrapping paper, here's what you can be doing to help reduce the food waste that goes to your curb — and then to the landfill! — this holiday season.

A. Tis' the season for gifts of food. Be prepared to know how to store it, fridge it, or freeze it so it doesn't end up in the trash bin.

B. Upcycle those leftovers! Pro-tip, Googling "holiday leftover recipes” will lead you to scads of new and exciting recipes to try. (I am especially keen on seeing how I can transform all the extra pumpkin puree I am sure to have on hand!)

C. Still concerned you’ll have food that goes stale before you can eat it? Consider sharing it with the birds. Check out the Eco-Friendly Food Waste Bird Feeder that helps you share bird-friendly leftovers!

D. Feel like "none of the above" will work? Consider composting! Setting up a compost bin is a great way to reduce the amount of organic food waste that usually goes into the trash bin. If you need some ideas on how to get started on your composting adventure, don’t worry, we got you covered.
