History of NYFRN
NYFRN began in March of 2021 and was initially convened out of a need for connection and mentorship for Seven Valleys Health Coalition’s (SVHC) newly developed food rescue program, Seven Valleys Food Rescue. A simple grassroots meeting with local food rescue leaders blossomed into a group who desired to meet regularly to reduce leader isolation and prevent programing silos and/or duplication. Additionally, attendees desired to foster a network that would encourage experience sharing and increase capacity and food system understanding from guest speaker presentations. SVHC continues to convene and facilitate this group which virtually meets bi-monthly on the third Wednesday and is open to all organizations, leaders, and community members working to reduce edible food waste and increase food access for those living in NYS.
