About
In October 2016, Seven Valleys Health Coalition (SVHC) received funding through a competitive grant funding process through the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Farmers' Market Promotion Program (FMPP). Our goal was to educate, promote, and expand agritourism and local producer-to-consumer direct sales by increasing access to and consumption of locally produced agricultural products. Our approach emphasized increasing customer knowledge and consumption of Cortland County area agricultural products for both locals and tourists.
This grant was a continuation of work that focused on increasing access to healthy foods completed under previous NYS Health Department grants held by SVHC, and a collaborative steering committee (Cortland Food Project) looking to address food security, local foods access, and sustainability. This project helped to maximize ongoing work of SVHC's health education and promotion efforts to reduce chronic disease in Cortland County, as well as the Cortland County Hunger Coalition. SVHC’s FMPP funding ended in September 2019, but many projects that began through this initiative continue today.
